I read Lobsters. It's just a link aggregator like Reddit or hacker news, but I like the community. There are no trolls there, except me I guess.
Also I read these tech-related blogs, most of which support Free Software:
Retro-Freedom: http://retro-freedom.nz/
Luke Shumaker's blog: https://lukeshu.com/blog/
Jan Corazza: http://jancorazza.com/
Arabesque: https://sanctum.geek.nz/arabesque/
mtjm's blog: https://b.mtjm.eu/
Then there's my blog of course: Naughty Computer: http://www.naughtycomputer.uk
You don't use feeds then?
Indeed, we could convert it to a newsletter, I'll think about it when I get a chance.
Someday I'll learn how this OpenID thing works and write my own implementation since the plugin is clearly less than ideal.
Hey do you think I should sub-divide the Scotland forum? I made different forums for different parts of England but didn't know how to divide Scotland up. Sadly I've never been there.
Hey I just noticed; FluxBB produces an ATOM feed! There is a site-wide one, which shows updates for everything, and forum specific ones so you could get updates for only the categories you want. Even feeds for each topic. This is probably the most correct way to see updates to the forum.
You make a good point that there is no general documentation, I'll do something about that when I get time.
I never noticed that since I don't use right click to go back. I'll have to look into it
That's really awesome. I'll try Dragora out sometime.
I used to be a dev of Parabola but I decided I don't like rolling-release and use Debian nowadays.
Welcome to the forum!
Welcome to the forum!
After reading an article claiming that most website's fonts are too small, I updated my blog's text to be much bigger: http://www.naughtycomputer.uk/
Do you guys think it's too big?
I'm thinking it might move us further from the FSFE and closer to the FSF, since the US has more influence on international trade deals than the EU.
Also the work the FSFE does to lobby the EU will no longer be very relevant to us, we'll be on our own.
What do people think?
Of course, we/I could code a system to send summaries like you suggest, you can make a thread about this idea in an appropriate section if you want and we'll discuss the details.
Well there's a "Subscribe to this topic" check-box when you make a thread and a button on others. Then it will email you when the thread is updated.
But what I recommend is: make this forum your browser home page, and click the "New" button every morning to see any conversations since last visit. Obviously this takes effort but that's the way it is: the forum is what we make it.
I'd love to see lots of normies on here asking stupid questions. I don't want the forum to only be used by hackers.
If you want any more specific categories, or have any suggestions for the forum, please make them here!
Hi!
I hear you have a really great community in Manchester!
I'd love to visit you guys one day. Not easy though since the distance is... enormous.
I really hope we can build a community here.
Thank-you for your compliments! I hope we can build a community here.
About your avatar, it seems it was not uploaded. On the settings pages you need to press the submit button at the bottom for changes to take effect. (it's a "lightweight" forum so it doesn't have much fancy javascript going on)
I can't reproduce the other problem you specify... please give more details if it persists.
BTW I've just installed a plugin called uLogin which allows logging in with OpenID.
Next year Software Freedom Day is on Saturday the 16th of September.
I really hope to mark it somehow.
I'm in Worthing (South Coast). There's no Free Software community here which is partly why I decided to make this forum.
Hello.
I run a computer shop in the UK called Freed Computer: https://www.freedcomputer.uk/
It does not aim to sell machines running only 100% free, rather to refurbish second-hand machines to make them run Free Software. Hence the name "Freed Computer". I hope for most of the machines to cost under £200.
I hope that this can be helpful to:
- people on a budget
- people who are new to Free Software and don't want to worry about hardware support.
Good Day UK!
Today I, Joseph Graham, found this web forum for discussion of Free Software in the UK.
I believe there are already Free Software enthusiasts in the UK. I hope we can build a community.
If anyone has any suggestions for adding new categories, please say so!
